The Department of Defense is combatting childhood obesity with an initiative aimed at making wellness a family affair. September marks the national observance of Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, one in three children in the United States is overweight or obese. The extra weight puts children at risk for a number of health issues, including heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.
